pythonware.com was the site of PythonWare, the company of Fredrik Lundh, known to a generation of Python programmers as effbot. He wrote the Python Imaging Library, a great deal of the early ElementTree work, and thousands of answers and articles that taught people the language. He died in 2021.
The domain lapsed and was registered again. Rather than pointing it somewhere unrelated, it holds material for the people who still arrive here through old links: mostly programmers following a citation in a book, a tutorial or a twenty year old answer, looking for the Python Imaging Library.
Everything published here is newly written and is about the code people run today, which means Pillow rather than PIL, and Python 3 rather than Python 2. The tools run entirely in your browser, so no image you open is uploaded anywhere.
Fredrik Lundh's own writing is not reproduced. His articles, his handbook and his daily notes were his, and copying them onto a domain that is no longer his would be wrong regardless of what the software licence allows. Where his pages are the best answer, this site links to the Internet Archive instead.
If something here is wrong, out of date, or handles his legacy badly, that is worth hearing. Technical corrections in particular are welcome, since a reference that is quietly wrong is worse than no reference at all.
