Tiled or single
A single mark in a corner is polite and easy to crop off. A diagonal tile across the whole frame is hard to remove without destroying the picture, which is the point when the image is a proof or a document you do not want reused. Choose according to whether you are signing your work or protecting it.
Keep opacity low. A watermark at 30% is unmistakable and still lets the photograph be judged; at 80% it ruins the thing it is protecting. Size is a percentage of the image width, so the mark stays proportionate whatever you feed in.
As with any watermark, this labels rather than locks. Someone determined can clone it out. It stops casual reuse, which is the realistic threat.
Common questions
Can I use my logo instead of text?
Not here; this stamps text only. A logo watermark needs a second image input and positioning controls, which is a different tool.
Will it work on a transparent PNG?
Yes, and transparency is preserved if you save as PNG. Saving as JPEG places the image on white first, because JPEG has no transparency.
